Altered Books – Altered Worlds

The Kalamazoo Book Arts Center (KBAC) announces a call to artists for the non-juried exhibition Altered Books – Altered Worlds which will be held in the KBAC Gallery June 5 through July 31, 2015. Open to all emerging and established artists, the exhibition focuses on books, usually so familiar and predictable, in different and re-imagined forms. All media, variations, and interpretations of altered books will be accepted and included in the exhibition. There is a $15 entry fee to participate.

Altered Books – Altered Worlds will run concurrently with Adaptation: Transforming Books into Art at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. This juried exhibition will showcase the work of 17 internationally known artists in the altered book genre.

These two unique and inspiring exhibitions will allow visitors to see the work of an exception-ally large and talented group of book artists.

Artists are limited to one entry for the KBAC exhibit. All entries over 24 inches in any direction may be submitted for approval by the KBAC by sending an image with detailed dimensions to katie@kalbookarts.org. All other entries will be accepted by mail without review. Books should be hand delivered or mailed in a padded envelope or box to the KBAC. Entries must be received by Monday, May 25 at 5:00 p.m.

Kalamazoo Book Arts Center
326 W. Kalamazoo Avenue, Suite 103A

Include packaging and adequate postage for return of work after the exhibit as well as check made out to the KBAC for $15 for the entry fee. (Or pay entry fee online at http://www.kalbookarts.org.) Please contact us by phone or email for directions for international submissions. Work without packaging and sufficient postage may not be returned.

All work must be ready for display on a shelf or sculpture stand that we provide, or hung from the wall (please include hardware and hanging instructions, if necessary.) Although care will be taken in the handling and display of the work, the KBAC is not responsible for loss, damage, or theft of the books during transit and exhibition. The KBAC reserves the right to reproduce images of submitted work for publicity purposes. A 20% commission will be charged for all sales made through the KBAC Gallery.

The opening for the exhibition will be June 5th, from 6:00–9:00 p.m., in conjunction with Art Hop. Works will be returned by mail, or available for pick up, after August 3rd.
